Please review the instructions for the Registration of BIRTH, MARRIAGE OR DEATH process carefully, as procedures have recently changed.

Note: An appointment is required to visit the Consulate; however, this process is completed by mail.

Birth Registration for Minors Born Abroad

The Consulate General of Panama in Los Angeles can register the birth of Panamanian citizens born abroad who are under 18 years of age.

Estimated Processing Time:12–14 months

Jurisdiction

The Consulate General of Panama in Los Angeles may only process birth registrations for minors born in the following states:

  • California

  • Nevada

  • Arizona

  • Washington State

  • Oregon

  • Colorado

  • Idaho

  • Utah

Step 1: Mail the Required Documents

Send the following documents by postal mail to the Consulate:

Required Documents

  • Original Certified Copy of the Minor's Birth Certificate

    • The certified copy must have been issued within the last six (6) months.

  • Copy of the valid Panamanian identification of each Panamanian parent.

    • If one parent is not Panamanian, submit a copy of that parent's valid passport.

  • Copy of a valid government-issued identification showing your current residential address.

  • Full names of the maternal and paternal grandparents, including their places of birth.

  • Money Order or Cashier's Check payable in the amount of $428.00.

Step 2: Review and Sign the Sworn Statement

Once your documents have been reviewed:

  1. The Consulate will email you a Sworn Statement (Declaración Jurada) for your review.

  2. Carefully verify that all information is accurate.

  3. After you confirm the information is correct, the Consulate will mail you:

    • The original Birth Registration Certificate issued by the Electoral Tribunal.

    • The original Sworn Statement.

Schedule Your Identity Verification Appointment

After you receive the documents:

  • Contact the Consulate by email to schedule a ZOOM appointment.

  • During the appointment, a consular officer will:

    • Verify your identity.

    • Witness your signature.

    • Witness you placing your fingerprint on the required document.

Important: You must have an ink pad available during the appointment to provide your fingerprint.

Do not fold, write on, erase, alter, damage, discard, or lose these original documents. Any damage may require the process to begin again.

Step 3: Return the Completed Documents

After completing the virtual appointment, mail the following documents back to the Consulate:

  • Completed Consular Assistance Form

  • Original Sworn Statement, signed

  • Original Birth Registration Certificate from the Electoral Tribunal, signed and fingerprinted

Marriage Registration

Panamanian citizens who were married abroad may register their marriage through the Consulate General of Panama in Los Angeles.

Estimated Processing Time:12–14 months

Eligibility

The Consulate General of Panama in Los Angeles can only process marriage registrations for marriages that took place in the following states:

  • California

  • Nevada

  • Arizona

  • Washington State

  • Oregon

  • Colorado

  • Idaho

  • Utah

Important: At least one spouse must be a Panamanian citizen in order to register the marriage through the Consulate.

Step 1: Mail the Required Documents

Send the following documents by postal mail to the Consulate:

  • Original Certified Copy of the Marriage Certificate

    • The certified copy must have been issued within the last six (6) months.

  • Copy of the valid Panamanian identification for each Panamanian spouse.

    • If either spouse is not Panamanian, submit a copy of their valid passport.

  • Copy of a valid government-issued identification showing your current residential address.

  • Completed Consular Assistance Form.

  • Money Order or Cashier's Check payable in the amount of $310.00.

Step 2: Receive and Complete the Marriage Registration Certificate

Once your application has been reviewed, the Consulate will notify you that your original Marriage Registration Certificate issued by the Electoral Tribunal has been mailed to your address.

Registration of the Death of a Panamanian Citizen Abroad

The death of a Panamanian citizen who passed away abroad may be registered through the Consulate General of Panama in Los Angeles.

The Consulate General of Panama in Los Angeles can only process death registrations for Panamanian citizens who passed away in the following states:

  • California

  • Nevada

  • Arizona

  • Washington State

  • Oregon

  • Colorado

  • Idaho

  • Utah

Step 1: Mail the Required Documents

Send the following documents by postal mail to the Consulate:

Required Documents

  • Original Certified Copy of the Death Certificate

    • The certified copy must have been issued within the last six (6) months.

  • Copy of the Panamanian identification (Cédula or Passport) of the deceased.

  • Copy of the valid Panamanian identification of the person registering the death.

    • The death may only be registered by one of the following immediate family members:

      • Spouse

      • Parent

      • Child

      • Sibling

    • If the person registering the death is not Panamanian, submit a copy of their valid passport.

  • Copy of a valid government-issued identification showing your current residential address.

  • Completed Consular Assistance Form.

  • Money Order or Cashier's Check payable in the amount of $310.00.
